Log Book
is it legal for the garage to withold the log book?
I have bought a Car from a “car supermarket Type garage ” the car I’m told is 12 mths Old One previous owner I have put my car in P/ex the garage tell me I must surrender All documents to them incl the log book on the day I pay and collect the car however even though I am paying the £7000 balance in cash they tell me that they will not give me the log book on collection of the “new” car but will send it to me in a month Why? and is it legal.
It could have something to do with these “pre-Reg” Cars that are in abundance at car supermarkets. They register the car as belonging to the garage, therefore passing a saving onto you as it is technically a Used car but if the car manufacturer finds out, it can have legal implications for the Car Supermarket. So they keep the V5 document in a filing cabinet in the sales admin office so if they get audited, they can show the car is still registered to them, once the 3, 6, 9 or 12 months is up, they will send it to you.
